Deir El-Medina in Luxor

Deir el-Medina is located in the southern part of the Tebana necropolis. It was called the place of “Maat Maat” which means the place of truth, and it was inhabited by the workers who dug the cemetery of Theban necropolis starting from the era of the modern state. The city monastery contains the village of workers, which still maintains large parts of its buildings and streets, as well as the distinctive tombs of these workers from the residents of the village. “Amon Nakht,” “Neb in Maat,” and “Kh-Im-Tree.” In the far north of the city’s monastery, there is a temple dedicated to the worship of the goddess Hathor, which dates back to the Ptolemaic period. It later became a monastery, from which the name of the region was derived.

In Luxor where history and monuments always hear about the Valley of the Kings and queens about Karnak and Ramsium, but you mostly did not hear about the city’s monastery, but its name itself is strange on the ear as part of the Pharaonic history but I was called to assure you that without the city’s monastery, neither Karnak nor the Valley of Kings The entire queens.

The reason for calling the city the city’s monastery is what happened to the temple of the gods of the Pharaohs Hatur, who was built during the era of the Ptolemies, but with the entry of Christianity to Egypt, the churches were not available in this distant place so the residents took it as a church for worship and it was called the monastery, so the area was referred to as the city’s monastery, and when discovering Cemeteries and workers’ houses There the whole area is named after the city monastery.
