Cemetery of Bagawat in Kharga Oasis

A group of old graves in the town of Kharga: Al-Bhagwat. The term is the spelling of the people of the valley for the word "vault" and that is a symbol that the doms over the graves on the cemetery. The great significance lies in the fact that it was in the early Christian period that the Egyptian Copts fled their faith in the wilderness well away from the hands of the Roman Emperors because of the Roman persecution of Christianity.


The Bagawat is a Christian necropolis from the second century A.D. Most of them have a structure painted from the outside. Those tombs have defied time factors and have written in Greek, Coptic, and Latin, tens of thousands.
