Tunis village is a little beautiful village in the oasis of Fayoum, on the way to Wadi Al Rayan, on a hill overlooking the desert rim across a large saltwater lake. It is one of Egypt's prettiest and most natural areas.
Not long ago, it was a small fishing village on the southern shore of ‘‘’Lake Qaroun’’. Although it may resemble thousands of other Egyptian villages, Tunis village has its very different charm and unique vibes. It's so small, extraordinary, and one of the most peaceful places in the country.
In 1980, a Swiss potter called "Evelyn Porret" created this villager, visiting Egypt and Fayoum in particular with Egyptian friends. Shortly after that she decided to go to the village of Tunis and decided to create on that land her dream country house. The house was built using eco-friendly building materials in primitive ceiling form. It was obviously influenced by the designs of the contemporary architect Hassan Fathi.
Potter's farmhouse has inspired other people, following the Swiss woman's steps, to visit the place and build their own houses in the small old fishing village. Then in the new country house, she built a pottery workshop. In the beginning, the children of the village will go to the place where they hear about, to discover and to know, out of curiosity. Some children and their families seemed very interested in the work of the young foreign woman, which inspired her to help them dig on for the talents that they had. Gradually, on the grounds of the same charming village, she was also building her pottery school.
As the years went on, the poor fishing village became a reputable center of modern pottery and an open-air museum established with eco-friendly and traditional rural materials, the thing that was attractive for investors and entrepreneurs to start to provide the village with various facilities in order to cover the unstoppable demand on the village activities.
