Bab zuweila

Bab Zwayla was the city’s main southern gate during the Fatimid period and one of the oldest gates and things to do in Cairo. It was built in 1090. In the Mamluke city the Fatimid walls pushed up against Salah al Din’s extensions, Bab Zwayla became a central point.

Bab Zwayla was built in the 11th century, inside the gate while up on the roof you get panoramic vistas that stretch out to the citadel.

The gate is one of the few remaining g gates of old Cairo, with two minarets on top of it, Bab Zwayla is considered the most beautiful of the 3 gates of Islamic Cairo and the finest, Climbing up the stairs of the minarets will give you a different view of Islamic Cairo with its fascinating architecture.
